I was part of a big Arts Council project about Tees Valley artists and creativity during 2020, called #TeessideRising. The project, organised and carried out by Lisa Lovebucket during lockdown, involved over 240 video interviews with artists across a huge range of disciplines, interests and practices. Lisa has been releasing all the video interviews during the last month, and the whole collection is captured and available to view on the #TeessideRising YouTube channel.

All the people taking part were asked to think about why we do what we do, how we got started and the things that have helped us to stay creative. It has been very interesting to think about these questions in relation to my own work with Rejig alongside my textiles, collage and printing projects, and to listen to what motivates other artists. I’m working my way through all the interviews and can highly recommend them – it’s a fascinating study of what makes people tick and what we all mean by creativity.

She believes passionately in recycling, skill-sharing, and art within communities, and started the REJIG project as a way of drawing these related interests together into a creative whole.
