Rejig at the Maker Faire, Life Science Centre, Newcastle

Community, Learning, Makers Faire, Rejiggers, Sessions, Sewing, Sewing machines

Well, what a busy weekend we had! After all the hard work planning and preparing for it, the Rejig sewing workshop at the Maker Faire in the Life Science Centre in the centre of Newcastle was a complete knockout. The volunteer team worked their socks off both days, the keen stitchers and would-be stitchers of all ages kept coming to make our recycled lunch bags. It was hard to find time for our packed lunches or grab a drink, but everyone on the team loved it.

The Maker Faire is such an interesting, hands-on, exciting event for people and makers of all ages, and we were really looking forward to being involved. So while we were setting everything up on the Friday evening, our stand seemed to be tucked away in a what looked like a quiet corner, and we were initially worried that people might not be able find Rejig and our lovely vintage sewing machines …

No worries on that score – we had a great time passing on all types of sewing skills, helping visitors to make hundreds of lunch bags with gorgeous orange handles made from recycled webbing tape, and talking about the beauty of using hand machines all weekend. Wonderful!
