July Block of the Month Tutorial

Learning, Quilts, Sewing, Tutorials

It’s a lovely sunny day as we’re writing this, so it seems rather unseasonal to post a tutorial for a block called “The Snowball”! However, we’ve avoided using wintery colours in our example, instead going for bold contrasts and intense, spicy colours – which shows just how versatile this block can be with the right fabrics.

The Snowball Block is a fast and easy pattern which uses the ‘quick corners’ method – it’s a simple technique which creates loads of opportunity for interesting combinations of blocks across a larger quilt.

You can use a number of the same blocks to form a lovely diamond pattern, but you can also pair it (as shown in the other example here) with a simple 9 Patch block using the same fabrics. This draws the eye to the other ways in which the plain and printed fabrics interlock, creating new shapes and interest.
