Making something lovely from scraps of silk . . .

Well it’s September and the weekly Rejig sessions have started again after a short break in August, so we always like to have a new creative project every year to try out different skills. This year, we are doing some Victorian crazy patchwork samples using lots of delicious scraps of velvet, silk, satin and lace which will be embellished with different types of embroidery stitches. This kind of patchwork is like an alternative stitch sampler, and can be a nice little piece of work to have in your pocket or bag when you have to wait somewhere or have some time on your hands when travelling on a bus or train.

This week we started looking at making a piece big enough to create the outer cover for a little fabric book to keep sewing needles safe and sharp. The cover designs can be completely random depending upon personal taste and size of the scraps you have available, or it can follow a pattern like this velvet and ribbon log cabin design in Irene’s work in progress.
